chattering in tranny?

I just bought an 02 explorer limited. I like the thing but just noticed a chattering coming from the tranny in 2,3,4th gears. Once it shifts into overdrive it is gone or at least not as noticable? I had this thing checked out before I bought it and everything checked out fine. My main concern was the transmissions on these things and now it seems my nightmares have come to reality.

It is a V6 with 72,000 miles on it. I only paid 8500 for it and put new tires and a front wheel bearing on it so I've got around 9500$ in it. I am thinking of taking it in and trading it on something different before it goes completely out on me.

Any suggestions?

Its more than likely that it is the famous trans issues on the 2002, at 79000, mine went and luckly i have a friend that works for a ford dealership, and he does a little side work. It cost me 1400. and i figure if it lasts another 79000, i won't care because I'm sure i won't have it by then.... Good luck

Hey if your going to trade it in, and are pretty close, maybe we could work something out for your rims and tires.....

Have you tried posting over in the Tranny/TC/Diff forum? Probably get more people that know about tranny issues to look over there. Good luck.
