99 Eddie Bauer
I have a '99 Eddie Bauer V8 with 105k. Last week I had all new brakes and new front rotors put on. I've driven it 2 days since then without problem. Today I drove it and when accelerating hard I felt the car shutter/chatter while it was changing gears. It seemed to be around 1500/2000 rpms. It stopped when I evened out my speed. Did not do it while braking. Did not do it every time I accelerated. When I accelerated slowly it did not do it either. Is this related to my recent brake/rotor repairs or do I have a different problem to look into here?

This is a tough one to diagnose online i suggest taking i back to where the work was done and explain to them what is happening and see if it is related to the work done or another issue. Take it for a ride with the mechanic with you.

I did contact the mechanic, aka my Dad :D. He's done many, many brakes over the years and is very knowlegable about cars having grown up in the 50's and loving to tinker with them. But he's scratching his head on this one. He can't see how the two would be related. He has a 98 EB Explorer and did not have this problem when he did his brakes. I think I might trade him cars and let him drive it and do some looking, but any ideas to give him on things to check out would be helpful. Transmission? UJoints? Look at brakes again?

U-Joints, Ball Joints, Tie-Rods, loose steering box all can cause a shudder at speeds it will do so faster.

But if this is a shifting issue. Then it is transmission related .. what it is i can't say without seeing it as it can be internal or external issue, modulator on tranny.

The brakes can rattle, but i never heard of any at high speed doing that.

I would double check all front end components for wear, check motor mounts for looseness, check tranny mounts for looseness, u-joints etc....

Even differential gears going/slipping can cause such and issue of shudder at high speeds, but you would hear more of a Clank, Grinding noise.
