Cheap 31" Tire Comparison

Go for a real mud tire not bfg's. GroundHawgs work real well. But if you don't want a mud terrain get some goodyears.

Pack,
I never thought of it that way. I'm looking forward to getting 40k or so miles out of a set of tires. The last 3 sets of tires we were lucky to get into the mid 20's. Between the locker and the tire compound they didn't last very long. The last set we had before the BFG AT Ko's was a set of Yokohama Geolander MT tires. They were the ultamate in traction (at least better than the BFG MT, and the BFG AT KO's) in rocks, sand, and held their own in the mud. The problem was once they got worn down a bit they were loud and rough. You could feel each lug hit the ground when you came to a stop. They also were made with a soft rubber which made the great on the rocks but they didn't last. We got 25k miles on them last time... I might have been able to sqeeze a little more out of them, but it wasn't worth it.. I traded in the 4 tires (good enough for spares.. if that) for 1 good BFG AT KO 32" to use as a spare.

At the rate we are going now we will hit 40k or more on the tires. It all depends on how often I can rotate them. The rear tires wear much faster than the front since we have a detroit locker in there. It will be nice to have a set of tires that will last a year or more (we drive over 30k miles per year on the explorer)

Finally Doing It

Well, after almost a month of waiting, I am off this morning to get my 31's. I will be using my friends garage he works at to install the shackels, twist the torsion bars, mount the tires, and allign the truck. I will be going to BJ's Wholesale Club to get a set of BFG A/T ko's. It looks like most people on this site agree that they are well worth the money, and will last at least 40k miles. The tires have a 40k mile warranty on them (from BJ's?) anyway. Again, thanks EVERYONE for the valuable insight.
