We are trying to come up with a solution to my buddies 06 exploder that Exploded.. He cant aford the $$$ for a OEM fan and has purchased a mechanical clutch fan and I was wondering if it will effect the ECM, engine, Ect not having a electric controlled factory fan?
ANy info on a cheap way to get this rig back on the trail would be appreciated!

You could possibly have a problem with a trouble code being set if you use a mechanical clutch fan.

The electronic fan is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module based on temperature sensors in the engine, transmission, and the A/C condenser. The idea is to run the fan at low speed until more cooling is needed, improving fuel economy. If any of them send a signal to the PCM for more cooling the PCM energizes the fan.

I don't know this for a fact but suspect if the connector to the fan from the PCM isn't plugged in which it won't be with a mechanical fan without a plug, and the PCM monitors the fan, it may set a trouble code and possibly turn on the check engine light. It might even put engine control into a "limp home" mode causing fuel economy and power to go out the window.

Worst case I'd think is to install the mechanical clutch fan and see how it goes. Everything might work just fine, who knows?
