So I'm looking for a grille guard/brush guard. Most I've seen have been really expensive, and then around 100 bucks for shipping.

In the JC whitney catalog on page 26 they have some cheap grille guards - the center section is 75 bucks and the headlight sections are 50.

It looks like it mounts to the bumper rather than the frame - part of me likes this - less likely to interfere with airbags.

What do you guys think? Worth it or a waste of money? I'm looking for something to mount lights on and keep away small stuff. And for looks.

All comments welcomed as always ;)

For looks, it should be great.
For light mounting, should be great.
For "light stuff", it should be great.

For anything else that it hits, it is no good and will prolly just ram back and pop your grille or hood.

It looks like a good deal... but as far as I can tell it doesn't come for gen 2's, and from what your profile says you've got a 97' :(

They have models for both 1st and second gens listed in the paper catalog, although its not listed on the website.

One close to that came on my pickup when I bought it. Came from an older farmer that pushed cows out of his way or something. Anyway...Its still on there and does whait it needs to. Good place to mount lights and does a good job deflecting sticks and stuff. Just used a front reciever to mount the winch and it was all good. I have pics of it on the pickup on my website in my sig if you want. Don't know if they will help with the explorer or not though.

Even though they have the years wrong... you think those grille guards will fit all 1st-Gens? Specifically my '93?

Believe or not, in my country those things are illegal!
Yes, man, in Chile is against the law install a grille guard/brush guard in any vehicle.
Our smart congress pass the law because some "experts" said that the chance to kill a pedestrian with a vehicle with grille guards or brush guards was much more higher than if the pedestrian is run over by a vehicle without those equipment.

Any of you, guys, thinks that will be any difference in run over a pedestrian with or without a grille guard.?
Come on, give me a break!

Andypinto,

That is hillarious! I can't beleive that there would be any kind of law like that! Ha Ha. It is almost as bad as leaving your Christmas lights up too long in California!
