i own a 94 explorer with 206000 miles and am wondering if a chip would be a good idea? The engine pings alot but, it is at the mechanics as i speek hopefully the pinging will stop. if i do get a chip how do i install it? and are there any other mods in and around 150 price range.

-A cone filter adapter in place of your stock filter will wake it up noticably. I was very happy when I did it to mine.

general rule is a "chip" doesnt do much unless you already have basic bolt on mods. KKM, maybe a cheap cat back (more like 200 bucks) WAYYYYYY before you considder a chip. And no way you put the chip in till the knock is fixed.

1: KKM filter
2: cat back exhaust
3: 66mm throttle body
4: 70mm MAS
5: chip

My advice would be to go spend that $150 at a detail shop and spruce it up a bit with a buff-n puff, carpet shampoo, dash detail, etc. I think you will enjoy what that does to your "senior" EX more than an air filter or chip.
