I'm looking at Monroe or Gabriel for the front of my 2WD 1994 Ex.

This car is driven gently by my wife; no need for gas shocks or springs etc. The shocks on it are worn out and the truck bobs after bumps. I just want the bare minimum for basic control in street driving.

If you have experience with one or the other brand, please fill me in.

Dude! It's your wife! I don't know about you, but mine deserves the best I can give her. Besides, just about everything you get these days is gas. You can get a complete set of either of those brands for around $120...maybe less. She has to be worth at least that much doesn't she???

you can all 4 KYB mono maxes off ebay for $167..My wife is worth $168...so you save a dollar

Exactly. And if I spend more than bottom dollar on parts for a 15-year-old vehicle, I'll catch hell.

I want stock performance at the lowest price. That's all.

UPDATE:

The Gabriels work beautifully. No more bobbing on lumpy roads.
