As stated. Check engine would come on at times and stay on a day or so and go off. Might be 6 days or 6 weeks before it would come on again. Son was using vehicle and both came on. Upon driving it home (10 miles) once up to highway speeds the engine would build RPM's and engine would "downshift' ? As if you were going up a slight hill. Letting off throttle is would drop off and RPM's would go back down. At slower city street speed all I notice is it takes a bit to shift into 2nd gear. No slipping . Goes into reverse easily. This transmission was rebuilt 3 years ago. Only been driven 7 to 9 thousand miles. Thanks!!

V-6 or V-8?

Pull all the codes then post back.
Usually when a light comes on there is a code that is set with it. With out these codes its much harder and more expensive for you to get it fixed.

You need an obd2 scanner that will get codes for the powertrain. I recommend an obdlink mx+ ($99) or a vlinker fd ($35 amazon) and Forscan (Free for windows computer or $4.99 on android or apple appstore for your smartphone)

I've also have a 2017 and 2018 Explorer. Should I consider the same unit? I'm not against a higher end ($$) unit if it will benifit me. I mainly want to know what possibly is failing and if it's something I could possibly do myself or have a shop do and not get ripped off. Also there are several versions of that unit on Amazon. Thanks.

I personally own a obdlink mx (its the previous model and was about the same price) i would definitely recommend you get the mx+ over the lower priced one. The reason is it will do both mscan and hscan without having a manual switch and if you pay for a subscription for forscan (computer version) you can do programming and updates to systems with the mx+ (not recommended unless you know what your are doing).

Yes forscan will work for all Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Mazda vehicles (i just tested it on a 2021 lincoln navigator no problems) the mx+ adapter will work on all obd2 capable vehicles but you will need a different app (other than forscan) for other vehicles. One very popular one is torque pro or the free one that comes with the adapter. The free one with the adapter will do basic things unless you buy an upgrade for the brand of vehicle you have.

You will only need forscan for your three vehicles. Obdlink is the free app that comes with the adapter i have that installed for firmware updates and it has a neat live data dashbord thats neat things like instant fuel usage.

Ok Local parts store pulled code. It's P0775 Presure control solenoid "B"

haven't resolved issue yet but I'm curious as to what year 5r55 transmissions will work on this 2007 Explorer? (interchange?) Will any year as?

I dont know on model years that will fit. But i would think that any 5r55 with the last letter matching your current one will work. For exampke if you have a 5r55s than any 5r55s will fit or if you have a 5r55w than any 5r55w will fit and work. From my understanding the last letter is the gearing in the transmission. That would mean any 5r55 will match to the engine I dont know if it would cause any problems.
Its possible that its just the solinoid pack thats causing issues but only a professional can figure that out or someone that knows the transmission.
