hi everybody,

my 'check engine' light came on today, and it hasn't yet gone off. the manual only mentions it in terms of flashing or intermittant illumination, it makes no mention of it constantly remaining on. performance isn't affected in any way, and there are no problems i have noticed.

anyone any ideas before i take it to the dealer?

thanks

jon

You need to get the code(s) read and post them here. You will get help then.

Good luck ...........

hi soundman, i have a 1999 model and i have a warning light that says "check gauge" do you have a spacific oil warning light!

Fords will charge you to read the code. If you plan on doing your own maintenance then a code reader is an essential piece of kit. I had mine come on recently and it indicated a lean mix. Finally tracked it down to a loose upper intake manifold, allowing un-metered air in.

What part ok the UK are you in? I have a code reader if you were near.

bobby, i have the check gage light too, plus an oil light and the check engine light that i mentioned

howard, i'm in derbyshire, so i'm quite a way from you, but thanks for the offer. i've found out that my local garage has the right reader, and hopefully, he'll let me check it for nothing. thanks once again for the offer. i'll be back when i have the codes!

Anyone know how much these check gauges are and there part number?

The "check gauge" is a warning light that somes on in the instrament cluster that comes on when one of the gauges reads too high, or too low. There are several different code readers, from simple LCD screens that just read and reset codes, to scangauge type scanners that are menu driven, show real time data, and point you in the most likely direction. They run from $50-5,000

Had the same problem, did the "disconnect the battery fix".

Hasn't shown since. Easiest 1st Fix
