Check engine light help

I have a 2000 XLT. To make a long story short I was having problems and my check engine light came on, I took it in and it was my IAC valve. I am replacing the valve but I was told that the check engine light would have to be re-set by a Ford Dealership. Another person told me it should re-set by itsself after putting the new IAC valve on. Can anyone tell me if it will and if it wont is there anything to do besides taking it to the dealership??

With the "94's to reset the computer you just have to disconnect the battery for 10 to 15 mins. Anyone with a '00 know? Either way it cant hurt to try.

I always do it with an OBD II scanner. I understand that the battery disconnect will do it also.

Just a note that I was told. On the 96 and newer Explorers if you reset the computer the check engine light will still come on.

the computer which diagnoses the problem should just as well be able to clear the code with no problems so make sure u arent getting jerked around by your mechanic

I changed mine a few months back and I had it reset by disconnecting the battery. I know it was cleared because after another few months I had to change the wires and plugs because it was giving out a new code and the old one was not there.

Go to Autozone, ask them to clear your check engine light, and that you have fixed the problem which caused it to come on, they will do it free of charge. If you are asked to pay call a different Autozone and report it. This is a free service from all of their 3000+ stores in North America.
