Check engine light help

Hey guys I need some help, I put and aftermarket intake on my ranger and ever since I put it its been idling low and has turned.off on me at a stop sign and now the check engine light is on any suggestions on how to fix it or what it might be?

Get the codes read first, then post up the code. Local auto parts places usually do it for free....AutoZone, Advanced, etc.

My truck won't let the computer read the codes for it I work at toyota and they used there computers and it wouldn't read what should I do now?

Well the code that came up was P0174 I believe which is supposed to be with MAF sensor but i already replaced that and it is still doing the rough idling help please

Have you disconnected the battery to let the computer relearn idle? If not I would try that first. Also, just go back and double check everything you did when installing the Intake, maybe a hose or clamp was left loose.

Check for vacuum leaks. I was reading up recently on the P0174 recently and that code points to that. Apparently there is some hose that goes bad and causes the leak on later model SOHC equipped trucks. Search around the archives.

I already disconnected the battery and the check engine came back and still did the same thing and tried erasing the code but it came back again and I sprayed some stuff to if there was a vacuum leak but nothing happened and I was also reading on other forums that it was like a little elbow hose that goes bad but I can't seem to find it

Put the stock intake back on to see if the problem goes away.

I put the stock intake back and still the same I'm gona try looking more into that elbow hose later on today and ill see if that's the problem thanks for the help guys

What CAI did you put on?

If it's a K&N with an oiled filter(or any oil-type air filter), I bet your MAF sensor is coated with oil. That's a common problem on K&N filters is that they are over oiled, giving you idel issues and whatnot. Simply clean the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner and see what happens.

K&N recommends servicing the filter every 50,000 miles under normal use.

Actually, I've watch the K&N testing and they actually have done the test to see if it does any damage to the MAF sensor with a normal amount. Then they ran a test with more than anyone would ever put on ran it at high pressure and there was still nothing on the sensor. After all that they actually dipped the sensor in the oil put it back on the intake and it ran fine. The oil does not damage the sensor at all. You need to make sure the connection with to the sensor is clipped on the bottom. I've had this problem before. What you need to do is turn the truck on have someone push the connector on tight at a fixed position and have the other watch the check engine light go out. If it goes out then your connector piece isn't on tight enough and a couple zip ties will do the trick.
