I have an 03 Sport Trac 4x4, auto, and stock, that the check engine light has been coming on for the past 2 weeks. I am getting 3 codes:
P0442 - evaporation emission control system leak (small)
P0820 - gear lever X-Y position sensor circuit
P1001 - KOER test cannot be completed

Yesterday I dropped the spare and checked all of the connections above the spare tire. I figured when I changed the shock a month ago I knocked something loose. Everything seems to be connected OK. To be honest, I have no idea on where to begin looking. To me these 3 codes have nothing in common. Is there a common ground around the spare tire area that I am missing?

Any help would be great, thanks Rob

I believe the P0442 code can usually be caused by a loose or malfunctioning gas cap.

I have no clue about the other ones.

I know you read my post on the "other" Sport Trac site so I'm just reposting it here for the possible future benefit of others...........

I'd check/clean the seal surface on the fuel cap & filler neck, clear the codes and see what comes back.

P0442 - EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Small Leak,(most commonly a small fuel filler cap leak.))
Possible causes:
After-market EVAP hardware (such as fuel filler cap) non-conforming to required specifications
Small holes or cuts in fuel vapor hoses/tubes
Canister vent solenoid stays partially open on closed command
Damaged, cross-threaded or loosely installed fuel filler cap
Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to EVAP system components
EVAP system component seals leaking (EVAP canister purge valve, fuel tank pressure sensor, canister vent solenoid, fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly)

P0820 doesn't come up in the '03 PC/ED OBD II library.

P1001 - KOER Not Able To Complete, KOER Aborted This Non-MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) code will be set when Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self-Test does not complete in the time intended. Incorrect Self-Test Procedure.
Unexpected response from Self-Test monitors.
rpm out of specification.

Thank you for the help. The problem seems to be fixed, my Scangauge is showing the computer in a ready state. I really do not know what fixed the problem, I was checking to many things at once.

Thanks Rob

I have the same code....I also have the "check gas cap" Message on the dash...now I know the cap is good because I have a friend clear the code and use his gas cap and the code came back right away...what else could it be that is an easy fix. I'm not too good with fixing things myself but I'm a little low on funds so I guess I'll have to learn!!:p:

Code 1131

I was driving the other day and hit a puddle of water and the check engine light came on and is still on after two days. I did take it to Auto Zone to see what the code was and they are telling me it has something to do with the the O2 being at the lean limit at bank 1, Vacuum affecting bank 1, Does any one know what this means?? Sometimes I do not trust dealerships as being a female they assume I know nothing about vehicles and try to tell me that I need things that I do not really need. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
