OK, I think that I've come closer to the cause of my pinging/detonation problem on my '97 Mountaineer. Anyway, the Check Engine Light came on while I was driving to work just a few minutes ago. After I turned it off, I cranked it back up & let it idle for a about 20 seconds. Then I gave it some gas and let the engine speed fall. When it fell, it fell to under 500 RPM & then died. I tried this again, but it would only roughly idle around 500 RPM.
Anyway, what sensor/sensors am I looking at now? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the vehicle is at 61k miles, so I guess it's about time that I changed some sensors.
I guess that I'll order my code reader now. Also, I guess that it would help if I had my shop manual here with me instead of at the house. =)
