I have a 95 XLT with 202,600 miles. I changed the air filter and after I changed it the check engine light came on. I tried to take it to a parts store, Auto Zone and Advance Auto and they both said that their code readers do not work on a 95. Before I take it to the dealer or a Meineke, did anyone have this problem and what did you do about it? Or does anyone have any suggestions before I shell out some money. Thanks.

Did you clean the MAF?

No, I didn't, I will do that tonight.

Most members will recommend that you use MAF cleaner only.

EDIT: Then disconnect the battery for a few minutes or while cleaning the MAF. IF after driving around once the MAF is cleaned you get another CEL then you need to get the codes pulled somewhere with a working scanner ;)

Make sure that you reconnected any wires/plugs you may have disconnected when replacing your filter. Also, make sure that all you're clamps are tight, from the airbox to the throttle body

maybe you disturbed the temperature sensor wiring?
