Iam getting a check engine light when driving for awhile and engine is up to temperature. With the real copld days here it may not come on at all but it will runn funny and miss until warm.
Does this sound like an O2 sensor? If so---where is it--behind the cat or is there other ones. I'm hoping to geta probable cause as to read the codes alone will cost me a fair bit of cash. Thanks for any suggestions.

Read the DTC(s) and that will lead you in the right direction.

Without knowing the codes that illuminated the CEL, its a crap shoot.

Good luck .......

I read trouble codes on my '92 with any old piece of wire (paper clip works) and a $3 analog voltmeter (and the voltmeter technically isn't necessary as the codes will also be flashed out by the check engine light). Instructions can be found all over the internet or in your favorite repair manual. www.fordfuelinjection.com may be the most verbose, but the easiest to follow of any on the net, though I prefer the code list at www.troublecodes.net/Ford I posted a little supplement to these here in response to someone elses post within the last couple of months.
