Hi

the check engine light has started coming on my 94 xlt, it will come after heavy acceleration usually, stay on for a little while and then go out, the garage pulled the codes and said it was the oxygen sensor, aparently, there are two on the truck, is this correct?

How easy is it to replace them yourself?
And am I likely to cause any damage to the engine if I don't replace them pronto? the garage said that it's only for the emissions! is that right?

I have also noticed some an occasional little bit of hesitaion on the engine when you put your foot down, is this likely to be related to the O2 sensors?

I'm getting about 18-19 mpg, which from reading the other posts seems reasonable,

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site stuartporter,
I have a 92' so hopefully someone will post a reply about having two sensor on a 94', I don't know. I have one O2 sensor on my truck and it is threaded in to the exhaust pipe just in front of the catalytic converter on the passenger side behind the front right wheel. It threads out using a 22mm wrench and I purchased my O2 sensor via carparts.com for $55, (TOMCO). I plan on changing mine at regular intervals just to keep up the gas mileage.

Hope this helps and again, welcome to one of the best sites for help with your truck,
FM
