Check engine light/ shift problems

Alright I've done some searching and just want some opinions on this, tonight my check engine light came on, and there is a squeak coming from one of the belts it seems like. Able to hear it at idle and while moving. The thing that is worrying me the most is the truck is shifting extremely rough, like huge jerks in between gear changes. Obviously I'll have to take it to the dealer and have them read the codes and what not, but I just came home for the weekend and I'm going back to school tomorrow so spring break will be the earliest for that. Just wondering if anybody else can give some insight to this while I wait for 2 weeks. Oh and the truck has 45,000 miles is all. 05 2wd

And I should add that this was after an hour and a half drive of completely smooth shifts, problem free. Drove a few more times around town just fine, then all of a sudden it got these issues.

Most auto parts stores will scan trouble codes free. Call first and get the actual DTC numbers. GL

So I finally got the codes read, and it turns out that it's a TPS issue. I've looked around and seen mostly info on it for the older explorers, so if anyone has changed it on a sport trac and can give some insight that'd be great. Found the sensor for $40 so if this is something that is a quick and easy replacement to do myself I'm definitely going that route

well its a good chance that a throttle position sensor can cause the shift issues you experience. with the introduction of electronically controlled transmissions the trans and engine sensors work in a symbiotic way. therefore certain sensors and parameters in the engine and ECU can change shift patternsand completely skip gears if needed do to temperatures (oil and water temps), throttle position, etc.

Yeah I'm definitely ready to get it fixed, but can't do anything till I'm home for the summer. Can't stand driving around in a vehicle that isn't 100%

Replacing the TPS is literally a ten minute R&R. Important you have a good Phillips tip.
Two self tapping screws are covered with blue thread lock in the plastic throttle body.
