1999 XL
Hi all,
I have a 1999 XL with a check engine light on-according to AutoZone, it is code #P1405, which is mentioned in another posting. The people at AutoZone suggested I put a new gas-cap on and it would reset itself, which it did not do with the new cap. Has anyone had any experience fixing this and if so, how does one go about doing it?? It seems like it should be a pretty simple fix, but I can't figure it out. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Like in the other thread change the DPFE sensor and the hose. These codes are set by the engine computer detecting a vacuum leak or vacuum hose being plugged on the Differential Pressure Flow Exhaust Gas Recirculation (DPF-EGR) sensor. The upstream and downstream hoses are located on the intake manifold. Use a vacuum pump to test the line for a blockage or leak.

Thanks for the info, I did check the DPFE hoses and both of them had big holes in them so I changed them out. The CEL is still on though, and I'm wondering if I have a bad sensor anyway because of the leaking hoses.

did you reset the computer after you changed the hoses?

So yesterday the CEL went off and I was able to get through the emission test te renew my tags. I don't know how, but it must have reset itself. Is there a way to do it manually? Anyhow, my rig seems good to go now and thanks for the help.

Scanners have a reset button. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes also resets it, but the computer has to relearn everything. You would also have to reset your clock, and radio station presets.
