check engine light

I just drove my car from NYC to LA. When I stopped for gas in new mexico the check engine light came on after the car started with an unusual noise. I drove a little bit further, stopped and restarted the car. The car started perfectly fine. But ever since new mexico the check engine light has stayed on.

You need to get the code(s) read.

With that kind of trip, you may want to just reset the computer (pull battery cable off for awhile), and see if it comes back on. If it does continue to come on, you need to get the codes read.

Its probably your O2 sensors if they've never been replaced. Get the codes pulled to know for sure though.
