Check engine readings...

The check engine on my 96 ohv V6 is on and reads two things:

1. O2 bank 2 sensor 1 -- where the hell is that?!
2. Egr flow insufficient -- do I need to replace the EGR Valve? Is this related to
the DPFE?

My mpgs are horrible -- I'm hoping replacing these two will fix it! Thanks for the help everyone!

1. O2 bank 2 sensor 1 -- where the hell is that?! Each side ("bank" of the engine has 2 oxygen sensors screwed into the exhaust pipe, one on either end of the catalytic converter.
2. Egr flow insufficient -- do I need to replace the EGR Valve? Is this related to

My mpgs are horrible -- I'm hoping replacing these two will fix it! Thanks for the help everyone! What is "horrible" Less than 15mpg? Have they gotten worse, or been horrible all along? Bad O2 sensor can affect mpg. imp

thanks for your response. i'm unclear on where the o2 sensors are located -- you said there are two on each bank of the engine, but also on either side of the cat? does that mean there are four total -- one at the manifold on each bank, and one in front of and behind the cat?

i'll check out that egr posting!

and my mileage is in the goddamn toilet -- probably 10 to 12! my old jeep grand cherokee with a 5.9 averaged 17.5 in mixed driving and had 100 more horsepower and lb-ft of torque! never should've sold it!!!!

and there are so many threads on the egr and dpfe that i can't find a helpful one!

bank 2 sensor 1 is driver side between the cat and the exhaust manifold, should be right next to where the tranny/engine bolt up.
where in mpls are you? I have a dpfe sensor for a v6 from the junkyard, the aftermarket ones are known to fail, with the factory ones being just a little bit better.
monday is my day off, let me know, if you are nearby you can stop by and grab this dpfe sensor

Thanks for the offer. I'm in St. Paul. How much do you want for the DPFE sensor? Is that the reason the EGR flow is reading as insufficient?

the sensor is the part that reads the flow. I can't tell you if your sensor is faulty or if your EGR valve is stuck. there are several posts on here about these problems. it seems to me that most of the time when you get the P0402 P0401 codes it is a bad sensor.
I've got $5.50 into this dpfe sensor. I grabbed 2 just because I've heard it is a common problem, l

My '96 with OHV V-6 got 20 mpg highway consistently, cannot tell city, ain't got any here, but 10-12 is pretty low, I would say. Lots of things can affect mpg, but O2 sensors and EGR operation are good starting points. imp
