check gage lights up after starting and then goes off after it idols down

when starting my 2002 Explorer V8 the check gage lights up and the coolant gage goes to high and it also idols high as well. after it idols down the check gage light goes away? it also starts rough as well?? what could be going on?

I would replace your coolant temperature sensor and see if that takes care of this.

as above that might be the problem. the check gauge light I can almost say 98% comes on cause the temp gauge goes up to high

Since the problem is intermittent during the vehicle start check and clean the connection to the sensor before you install a new one.
