First of all I am new to the site but have found good ideas, so thanks. I have a '94 XLT with 228,000 + miles. Still get 19-22 mph on the highway if the gas is Ethanol free. Back in the spring I started putting "High Mileage" oil in. The place I get my oil changed was a Havoline vendor but got sold and is now a Valvoline distributor. Since the change to Hi Mileage Valvoline my check Oil light comes on at about 2300 - 2500 miles after the oil change. I went back to the 5W-30 this last time and the exact same thing happen at the 2300 mile mark. I check my oil and the level is fine but these days the oil is spent at the 3000 mile mark where in years past I may have went 5000+ miles. I drive a lot of highway miles. Any ideas on why my Check Oil light has started coming on. She's getting a lot of age and miles on her but I want to continue driving my Explorer cause it has to be the best one every built.
Here of late the "Spark knocking" has gotten worse, any thoughts on that?
One thing I read on this forum was the "Clicking" sound that may be a starter going bad. It really sounded like a valve but not at the valve covers, well my starter starting dragging and I replaced it, (one of the less than 5 items replaced on this vehicle, except brakes of course since I purchased it in '93) and the "Clicking" went away. So who ever suggested that, thanks.
