I have a 92 Explorer. I got in mid October and since then the check oil light has come on about 3 or 4 times and it just came on again last night. Can someone tell me what is causing it to come on. Is it burning oil or does just need tightened on my engine?

Sorry when I was typing i left out something "Is it burning oil or does something just need tightened on my engine?"

Check the oil level, it ususally means either your oil level is low or perhaps your oil pump is one the way out.

I have found that my Explorer uses about 1 qt every 6-8 weeks. Check for any slow leaks.

what i've found on mine is that the oil light comes on when i'm a quart low. check your dipstick to see if this is the same for you. then check for leaks...check your valve covers, your lower intake manifold, and check underneath where your transmissions butts up against your engine (rear main seal).

jack sounds like you have a good sized leak...check your rear main seal as well.

I had my rear main seal replaced this past summer. I was using about 1 qt every 9 days. Now that's a leak!!

that's not just a leak that's like a damn hole!
