Does this book exist? I cant seem to find it. I can find them up to 1999 and from 2002 on, but the 2000 and 2001 year models seem to be a mystery. I purchased both of the other books 1995-1999 and 2002-2010 and neither are the correct for my engine ( I have a 2001 Sport. ) Anyone know?

Gees, you know it. I've been looking for a chilton on this 01 for over a year. Nobody has it. O'reilly looked it up and said they didn't make one for the 2001. WTF?

So I have been getting by using those up to 2000. Personally, I think Haynes SUCK. All a Haynes does is give you that instructional "raise and support on jack stands" crap. Chilton uses more illustrations and is more descriptive in most cases I find. I like them much better.

Haynes and Chiltons are both pretty much ****, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it. There is no reason not to get a shop manual if you plan on doing any real work on your explorer.

Agree with that. My Haynes is almost worthless, but I could not find Chilton one for 2001. The 1999 should be right... almost :)

Unless you can't afford that. I call that a reason.

I know enough to get by without the shop manual in most cases, but haynes are still more crap than a chilton is.

Where do I get a shop manual and how much am I looking at? I love my truck and want to keep it.

I also have come to the point where I have decided that I will not pay a mechanic to do anything I am physically capable of doing myself again. I want to learn to do all my own mechanic work. I am having fuel injector problems on #5 now but the 1999 chilton tells me #5 is on the left and the 2002 says it's on the right and the mechanics shop said just pull them all it's easy...

I want this damn book. lol

I bought a set of manuals on eBay for my '97 for $40 shipped. All of them- engine, elec, vac, etc...

They're out there, just need to find them.

As a hint, find a way into the Ebscohost server through a library- the manuals are online.

That does appear to be the correct set...

Yes thats it.

Notice how its about 2 times as thick as a Chiltons/Haynes, and it only covers 1 year. That alone should tell you how valuable they can become.

I personally use ford's online OASIS system, which takes things one step further and uses a VIN to tailor everything to a specific auto (basically leaves out stuff that doesn't apply to that specific auto; i.e. not having a ARC suspension section and a non ARC suspension section, it'll know).

Yep, Thats the one you want. I also have a 2001 Sport, and picked up this 2 volume set on ebay about 2 years ago. Best 50 bucks I have ever spent. Those look to be in great shape too. Good Luck!!!

Those books are far more in depth than any chilton. They are a great buy and I am glad I got them. Highly recommend these to anyone doing anything in depth to thier truck.

FSMs are much more than twice as thick as a Chilton or Haynes. 1 of the 2 volumes alone is about 2-3 times thicker than a Chilton/Haynes.

definitely what I would recommend!

Although the Chilton's can come in handy too, when you don't feel like lugging around a 10 pound binder/book, and it has the info you need.

I've purchased mine from helminc.com
I want to say it was around $90 for my Bronco 2 FSM, and around $90 for both volumes for my '97 Explorer.
