Funny you should call yours a chirping sound. I've been experiencing a similar noise which I also describe as a chirping bird. Mine noise is coming from the rear and I'm nearly positive that it's caused by the sway bar bushings. Once I get a few other projects out of the way I'm planning on installing an EE upgraded sway bar and replacing all the bushings with the Energy Suspension bushings that EE sells with it.

Ive had U-Joints make that sound- noticable mostly on take off.

if you havent replaced the belt in a while do so even though it looks good it will still squeel

I've had a loose shock absorber bolt make a chirping sound.

does it make it only when moving because if it does than i second the u joint opnion

Could be wheel bearings...mine made a chirping sound while moving

Yes, it only does it when moving, but it doesn't do it all the time.

does it sound like its coming from the tires or around the engine area?

Thanks for your help. It sounds like its coming from under the hood.

only when moving and underthe hood. i can only think of the front driveshaft ujoint

yeah, i would say u joints too b/c if its the bearing u are going to be able to tell that its coming from the wheels

Possible. Only problem I see with this assessment is that the front driveshaft shouldn't normally even be spinning. I guess I should ask this: are you in 4WD? Hubs locked or unlocked?

didn't even think about tha fact that you had a 1st gen. mage sure the crappy auto hubs are disengaugeing

I have Warn manual hubs and they are not locked.

how are the brakes. try relubing the slide pins

Thanks for all the suggestions. Upon further review the chirping sound occurs with the revving of the engine, even when not moving. Any more ideas?

replace the serpentine belt and go from there. this is almost awalys the cause of squeaking in the engine bay

Try turning on the AC to see if the compressor clutch is kicking in and causing the chirping... For those that don't know the AC cycles on/off if your selector is set on any defrost setting.

From what you describe it sounds like belt chirp.
A/C Compressor clutch usually makes a pop/click (unless it's bad then it can really make a racket...);
but bird chirp sound is serpentine belt most likely.
