I have an 04 Explorer with the 4.6 V8 that makes a chirping sound when the A/C or defrost is used. I have had it to the Dealership and was told that Ford knew there was a problem but didnt know how to fix it yet. (sounds a little fishy) After 3 years, I can't take it anymore. I was hoping that someone here might have had the same problem and would be able to provide me with a little more info. THANKS!

If the chirping is in the cabin, then its probably the electric motor that circulates the hot/cool air. If the chirping is in the engine bay (the front of the engine bay), then it is probably the air conditioning's compressor. Try spraying the compressor with some lubricant -- it has an electric clutch at the front so perhaps that unit or its bearing needs a bit of attention.

It is under the hood and i'm pretty sure it's coming from the compressor. Could I spray some WD-40 on it?

Sure, just spray at the mechanical stuff -- not the electrical (connectors, wires, etc...)

Why would the shop manager tell me that they couldn't fix it? It was under warrenty when I brought it to their attention, do you think that it is a wear problem or something they should have taken care of ?

Trust is not given away, it is earned. So don't always trust people. Lets not forget that almost all businesses exist to make money ;)

Blower motor, should be located behind the glove compartment.

Probaly a bad bearing, sparys won't help it. It'll actually make it worst.

I've got the same chirping noise. It chirps when the compressor cycles on / off.

I've written it off as a little annoyance.

I considered changing the serpentine belt to a gatorback belt to see if that helped as it's helped with squeaks/chirps in other cars of mine but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

i get a whistle when i toss the A/C on when i accerlate....sounds like a bit of a vaccuum leak but the dealer didn't find anything, of course.
