Clanking noise over bumps

Whenever I hit potholes in the road or something that jars the suspension I get a clanking noise, If I go over something that does not jar it just lets the suspension compress and rebound I don't get it. I know its not the exhaust because Its brand new and I've already dealt with the heat shield issues, and double checked it today. I did a search and came up with the Radius arm bushings possibly being worn but I would think that that would be more like a clunk than a metal clanking sound (am I wrong?) Me and my girlfriend drove over some potholes with our heads out the windows and she seems to think that its coming from the passenger side. I pulled both front wheels looking for something loose but didn't find any thing. I would love to here any suggestions that you guys may have.

It could be the individual leaves in your leaf spring packs hitting each other.

Is it from the rear wheels, or the front? If it's coming from the rear, it's probably what Alec said. If it's coming from the front, check the washers next to the bushings. My X made a claniking noise as you describe, the washer in front of the bushing got very slightly loose, barely noticable.

If it's the leaf springs, what can be done about it?

Make sure you have the anti-rattle clips on your brake pads. I have the same problem (at least you described the same problem I have) and it's because I keep forgetting to put the stupid anti-rattle clips on when I change my brakes.

It sounds to me like it's coming from the middle of the truck, thats why I was thinking Radius Arms, I already removed the spare tire to make sure that wasn't it, If it is the rear leafs how would I be able to check? and like what Rhett said how do you correct it. I don't know if this helps but I kinda think it sounds like your towing a trailer??? I will check those washers out on the radius arms.

Have you had an alignment done recently? Mine was clanking as you said, took it to the dealer several times. They finally got it in there right away. While it was still warm from the drive they could pick up the wheel and it would clunk. They said whoever did my alignment tightened something or other in the air while it should have been tightened on the ground. Once it got warm from use it would start to bind up. I thought the trans was gonna fall out for a while

OK, I went out and started shaking the krap out of it, and I think I found the source. If I kick the front passenger wheel I can get the noise. And the more I hear it it sounds more like a rattling clank than just a clank. Any I deas what might be rattling in that front wheel??

If the radius arm bushings haven't been replaced, and you have 163k on them, you can count on that being a problem.
The passenger side always goes first, because it is right next to the catalytic converter, and the heat kills the rubber bushing. Replace them with poly ones.

replacing. It's a ***** of a job. Took me a day, I did the rivet cut method.
