I want to purchase a cargo holder for my '04 Explorer. All the cargo holders I found have 2 inch connections. My trailer hitch (Class II) is 1 1/4 inch. I found a local company that has a 1 1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any problems with using an adapter this way. I plan on towing less than the 350 lb maximum mentioned in the owners manual.

I have a hitch hauler with the 2" adapter and have not had any problems with it. It's not as stable as I would like but it's gets the job done.
I have used my to haul deer during deer season and didn't have any problems with the weight issues.

The adaptor is fine for what you're going to use it for, but never tow a trailer with one! That's an accident waiting to happen.
