Make sure your sleeping bag is warm. I expect temps to drop into the 40's at night.

My camper is very warm :D If not for the propane forced air heater, all the extra blankets on the bed don't hurt either,

I will bring wood just incase we decide to be rebels.

I won't be making it...I've got inventory, one of 2 saturdays I HAVE to work. The following weekend I'll be up at the backside of lake Kachese camping close to the water and exploring the forest service roads. I heard there are one or 2 waterfalls up there somewhere. Everyone is welcome to join. I'll post directions soon.

Diff Ill be being a rebel I guess, cause unless were going to use our headlights to light the camp ground at nigh were going to need a fire. Ill pay the damn ticket if we get one.

Bring lots of money then. Everyone in the site with the open fire will get a $200 ticket. The fire danger is EXTREMELY serious on both sides of the Cascades.

I'll have my Coleman lanterns and LED headlamps :D

I though it was just a 200 fine, thats way to much money to pay for a fire if its for everyone :D .

Ill go grab a latern today then, so whats the plan wheel friday, sat, and leave sunday mourning or afternoon.

Well, I REALLY don't want to take off my safari gaurd, but since you guys recommended it, i'll try to get to it tommarow.

Have fun back in there.....it is pretty country and yes there are a couple falls though the lower one is dry this year :(

Follow that there FS road behind Kachess back in to the rock rabbit lakes for a nice camp area........ though......you just might have fun driving the little spur road that branches off from the main road to go to the Rock Rabbit's. Me I park and walk it, but it is doable in a vehicle, the gate keeper is just a bit intimidating ;)

And folks wonder why I avoid group outings and typically wander alone or with a select person or two.

Light the fire or disrespect the land and I will ensure that the ticket is written. Not to be an #######, but I take respecting the land very seriously!! Respect it or stay home!

Besides it doesn't get all that cold till late evening this time of year, and a safe fire doesn't put out much light anyway....Then again I suppose I am used to cold camps while backpacking wilderness areas where they are never allowed.

Now to move on.......I'll see y'all Saturday morning.....I may have my miniture spotter, but will just as likely be alone.

Sunday? Hmm well if y'all leave early in the day I'm heading for the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.....wanna join me Phil

Respecting the land and having a small campfire can both be accomplished. I too am big on respecting the land and a campfire in an approved fire pit and following simple rules of fire safety, ie, ensuring the fire is out when unattended, and cleaning up after yourself restoring the small area used for a fire by burying the ashes and replacing the rocks or whatever used for the ring. I could understand if someone was being irresponsible with a 8 foot flame burning pallets or something.

I am originally from CA where fire safety is much higher than it is here in the wilderness and they still allow camp fires.

Anyway, that being said, if all don't agree, then there is no reason to even dicuss it anymore.

I might still be going or I might not its up in the air right now, Ill let you guys know tonight.

Get over it I was joking, Im the last person you need to threaten about disrespecting anything that has to do with wilderness or animals, christ man

Sorry to hear about that Jeff :( :thumbdwn:

I'm bringing a digital camera, but is anyone bringing a video camera?

 Yep

diff what time are you leaving, and gas wise do you think ill have to fill up before the we get to the trails or will a tank last till we come home?

I would top off just as you get off I-90 just to ensure you have enough for the weekend. One tank of gas will usually last two days of 4 low wheelin, but it's better safe than sorry.

My plan is to leave my house in Mt. Vernon by noon or 1 pm at the latest. I have to at least let the kid do a half day in school.

Bryce, you're camping with me and Trav, that way we can keep you under control, hippie :p

Unfortunately that area is under RED FLAG warning, meaning the fire danger is EXTREME. I know we'll all be respectful and have a good time in the hills.

Y'all will want to top off at the station before Roslyn, even though they are pretty rpound of their gas.

Right now, we plan on leaving Newcastle at about 9:00 and should be there by 11:00.

Look for paper plates with a blue oval and NWX on them

Sorry if I jumped on that one, but ya got to figure I spend a great deal of time in the wilderness and after the idiots I observed over the labor day weekend I am a bit touchy on the subject. Not to mention About 70% of campers on any given week . Most folks seem to have little common sense, respect, or wilderness knowledge in general. Sorry I lumped you into that group, but when you said you would be the rebel I took it quite literally.

Please note also that there are no approved fire pit's or anything of the kind in the area. I would not be surprised to find that the FS will be allowing small fires in the developed campgrounds with certain criteria. Typically they will, but then again this is the driest year I have seen up here.

Kinda scary really.

Dreamr thats ok, i understand were your coming from, but im a vegan who also spend alot of time and effort on the rights of animals issue, and is currently working with 3 diffrent groups on pushing for the ban of puppy mills, including a freelance article im writting on puppy mills with interviews with the ceo of hunte corp, and the ceo of petland, I would never do anything to jepodize the well being of the animals in the forest let alone destroy the land we share, and ruin the future ofr others to enjoy the land.
