Hey folks, so i have a question...

I recently went to an explorer meet in central texas, and had loads of fun, but the roads were insanely dusty, and i had the ac on near full blast cause it was so dang hot. Anyways it seems like a bunch of dust got into the AC system and now it doesnt smell so fresh; so i was wondering if there is a way of flushing out the AC system to try and get all of the dust out.

I'm going to assume you mean the vents and blower, the A/C is a sealed system, so the dust wouldn't be able to enter the system.

For the vents the best you can do is try to flush them out by blowing air through them.

If your explorer has a cabin air filter you can change out the filter.

Lastly you can take out the blower motor and clean it. But that requires a lot of work

Well, for starters you want to clean out the ventilation system, not the A/C system. Yes you can, but it's a ton of work. The only real way to do this would be to disassemble it all and wash it out to remove the dust. The problem here is that you would also have to disassemble part of the A/C system to get access. Febreeze may be a better answer.

dang, doesnt sound like fun. well thanks for the replys guys.

They make a cleaner you spray into the hvac system from outside the car, at the intake near the front windlshield, not exactly sure where that is though. They sell it at most parts stores. Usually for musty smells, smoking, etc but might help clear the problem you're having.

I've bought some but haven't used it yet so take that for what it's worth.
