Cleaning a KKM or K & N air filter

Its comming up on time to clean my KKM filter for the first time.

Any suggestions and/or advise?

For cleaning a KKM filter, does one necessarly need the KKM cleaning kit ( which has to be ordered from them ) or can the K & N kit ( available in local auto parts store ) be used?

What difference might there be?

They are both the same.. I think the KKM cleaning kit has the S&B Brand on it while the K&N has the K&N brand on it.

But overall, they do the exact same thing.
