OK, I need some professional advice on this one. Help me understand the path the oil takes through the engine. If I understand it correctly, it gets sucked through a screen in the oil pan, through the pump then directly to the oil filter before being pushed up to the top of the engine through passages in the block. I have an idea for cleaning the oil pump screen by modifying a new oil filter to pump one of the commercial engine solvents backwards through the system down past the pump to declog the screen. Is there anything that could be damaged doing this? Does the oil pump have a check valve that would prevent this? Any other thoughts comments or concerns would be greatly appreciated. rc
