I have a 95 XLT, 4.0L OHV with quite a bit of mileage on it. I'm looking for a way to get the engine nice and clean inside. I've been reading up on this Seafoam business, but couldn't find any threads specifically for my engine. Can anyone give me some guidance on this (where to put it in, etc.)? Also, I just did my plugs and wires, any way to do this treatment and avoid doing them again?

I've also read about cleaning the MAF and IAC out. I just changed the IAC, I was having some stalling problems, but would like to know how and what to use to clean the MAF.

Any guidance is much appreciated!

seafoam is good and i believe it would show if you have any leaks also..just what ive heard though i couldnt tell you. seafoam is a good start to help cleaning it out you could also do an engine flush, they sell engine flush and you would flush as if you would your coolant. they also sell magnetic drain plugs so any metal shavings will stick to that if there are any present. if you do decide to clean your MAF be very very careful. ive known mechanics that have messed them up cleaning them, they are very sensitive. speaking of flushing your coolant thats a good thing to do and also changing your pcv valve. but those are more regular high mileage maintence things.

One good way to clean the MAF, is get electrical contact cleaner, and spray down the wires in the MAF. Don't rub them, just spray and let it air dry. That way, if you don't rub them, they won't get damaged.

It will really smooth out your idle, too.

Thanks for the input. i don't know that I NEED to clean the MAF, just figured it would be a relatively simple thing to do. Was going to do a coolant flush, but mine is still good, so I will wait till I need to replace the coolant to flush it. I've already changed the PCV valve.

The main question I have in regards to Seafoam is I really don't want to foul the plugs, they're a pain to do. Where can I put the Seafoam in where it won't enter the combustion chamber?

I think the whole point is to get it into the combustion chamber. It removes the carbon build up. You can also put it in with your oil. It will loosen up all kinds of sludge. You have to change the oil soon after though. You don't want all that stuff floating around in with your oil.

I guess your right, I'm just loath to change the plugs again so soon, they're not much fun. Maybe I'll just try in the crank case for now.
