lots of soap and maybe a steam cleaning by a professional....

I cover my cone filter, alternator, and distributor with garbage bags and spray it good with a hose. Then I use a bucket of soapy water and a wash brush to get under the hood and stuff. I use a hand mitten for the harder to get at stuff.

yea thats what i was wondering about the spray thing at the car wash is getting into my alternator and stuff

Yeah , you definitaley want to cover the distributor, and alternator. You might want to get some degreaser if your engine itself is all mucked up with oil and grease.

Any one else notice this?

I have a 97 and someone else pointed out to me that the boots on the steering column just above the gear box wear open. Sure enough mine did also. He said the only way to get a new boot was to buy the whole assembly for about $200. He covered the opening wih part of a CV boot. Sure looks like you could fill it up with mud and water. A good inspection of the engine is in order if you are thinking of leaning with a pressure washer.
