My friend is thinking about dropping his X and putting some 18's on it ( he just has to save up some money this summer). He wants to put clears on the back but he doesn't like the look of the Altezza's. We were thinking that if he got just normal clears then used red bulbs it would be legal, right (we live in cali if that makes any difference)? He wants to make sure before he does it but we saw a blazer in the new Trukin mag with the reg. clears and red bulbs and it looks pretty phat. Thanks!

nope it isnt... i am kinda the site "lawman" about dmv in cali regulations

So theres really no other way to put clears on unless you put the Altezza's.

that is right. however altezzas arent made for our trucks. BUT IT REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW THE COPS ARE IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS!

I live in WV and i just got my explorer inspected with clear on it and they told me that they were legal but i guess different states have different laws.

The problem with the clears is that there is no red reflector. So you may be able to get away with it if you: Got the clears, put in some cool LED bulbs, and then took a thin strip of red reflector tape and put it along one side of the clears.

I know of 2 people that do.. sideswipe and one other, but I forget his user name.. I haven't seen him in a long time..

look for sideswipe, he has a pic on his page I beleive...

the cali laws that you posted jim seem to be very vauge in its descriptions.. I tihnk you may be able to find a loophole and run clears with red reflectors somewhere on trhe rear of the vehicle..

truck, its possible that your area may not enforce clears harshly.. look around for other vehicles with clears, if you see the same vehicle for like a month with clears chances are the cops don't enforce the law very well and it will probablly be safe to get them.

if you do get the lenses keep your stockers and bulbs in a box in the X, that way if a cop hs a problem with it, you can swap them right in front of him, if hes in a good mood he may not give you a ticket if this happens. Also, keep your bulbs red! if you get incadescent bulbs in clears and they fade to orange/white you will definatley get pulld cos at that point the actual light is blinding to the drivers behind you during braking. You may wanna get some jamstrait LEDs for that..

sorry for the LONG post guys, hope some of that can be help to someone

I have the altezzas on my truck, so do Jornum1 and 00xlt. Those are the ones from the board that I know have them. You must have a 98-01 Explorer to use them. I'm on my second set, the first ones I had were some of the first revision that came out and they leaked like crazy. This second set is a later revision and has no leaking problems whatsoever. You can tell the revision by a little sticker thats on the inside of the light housing. I got my 1st set from ebay and my 2nd set from a local speed shop. Hope this helps someone.
