With all due respect Mr. Bay there are certainly CV axles in the rear of an 02 explorer.

This is something new to me. I know that the front needs CV axles since the rack & pinion needs flexibility. Do you have a picture or a link to show the rear axle set up with the CV axles in place? Are CV axles only used on the rear in 4X4 Explorers of this year?

I don't have a pic handy but 02+ regular explorer and 04ish+ sport tracs switched to independent rears. The axles look just like regular CV's but a little bigger. This is one of the main causes for so many rear diff issues on the 02 explorers. I don't think ford got it right just yet.

One of the MANY reasons the 2nd gen is FAR superior the the 3rd gen explorer..we still have a solid rear..:)

thanks guys yea it does have cv axles in the rear so ima jus replace the wheel bearing an see if that solves it an if not then ill know its the cv axle. just tryin to save some money before i go an replace both. but the clicking is coming from the outside an not from underneath so im thinking its the wheel bearing an possibably the cv axle cuz they're both orginial parts an jus flipped 117,000 miles.

fixed the clicking sound

okay so i found out wut that clicking sound was in the right rear. i pulled my tire off then my brake caliper an then the rotor. as i pulled off the rotor the e-brake brake pads fell out of the rotor but the shoes were still intact over the wheel bearing. so i checked out the driver rear side an it was perfectly fine. so i went ahead an jus left the pads off an did nothing with the brake shoes. put it all back together an took it for a test drive an did not hear anymore clicking at all during low speeds. so if you hear any clicking from the rear try checking your emergency brake pads in the rear over your wheel bearings.
