I have a 98 2wd XLT........My airbag light is on the cruise control doesn't work and the horn is also inoperable. I usually do most of my own maintenance but I recently took it to the dealer for a recall fix of some sort and they told me that the "clock spring" was bad and that would fix the forementioned problems......It sounded like B.S at the time and since then I have bought a Haynes manual and after reading it cover to cover I see nothing even remotely called a "clock spring".......Any help would be appreciated

The clock spring is inside the steering column , under the steering wheel . It is a "joint" for the wiring so you can turn the wheel yet still have the airbag/horn/cruise switches still attached

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!........I seriously appreciate that.....any idea if that can or should be purchased at a junkyard?

That I don't know and can't help you with. I wouldn't see why not, but I don't know.

Well I still thank you heartily for the first set of info.

No prob...and welcome to the site! :chug:

A clock spring is not very costly.
I would not buy one at a JY reguardless.

yeah, the clock spring itself isnt too bad,,,

Its the labor it takes to remove everything to get to it thats a pain in the ass. My sister had to have one replaced on her contour and it was several hundred dollars.

Well it isn't hard to get to .....just got to get a harmonic balancer puller and get that pesky steering wheel off......dealer here wants 176.00 for the part
