Sup everybody. I have a flat K&N drop-in air filter in my car. I just cleaned the filter following the instructions provided by K&N, and they warn against over oiling the filter. Over oiling will cause the oil to drip into the MAS. I am pretty sure that i did not over oil it, but how evident is it when the MAS are clogged by the oil from the K&N recharger kit? thanks for the help.

HuiDaddy,
The Mass Air Flow Sensor(MAF)is a little filament that looks like the filament in a light bulb. It is very sensitive and can be dammaged if touched. Its purpose in life is to let the computer know how much air is getting into the engine, thus it is instrumental to getting good gas milage, and proper running of your machine. If the oil from your K&N gets on this sensor, it will ruin it and cause bad gas mileage, ruff running engine (bad idling),stalling and so forth. There is a write up on how to clean it in the Explorer Tips. Please go there and check it out Servicing the MAS. Those little buggers are not cheap. The oil can not drip on it, what happens is the oil will be sucked into the MAF unit if there is too much on the filter. Take care to only use enough oil to cover the filter, but not soak it Hope this helps
