Here's another one of those possibly mysterious clunking stories. About 3 months ago, I had the front brakes redone. New calipers, new rotors, new pads, new fluid. Recently, when stopping, a clunk can be heard when the vehicle is almost stopped. I can also feel it through the steering wheel. This is an intermittent thing and it seems to depend on how hard the vehicle is braked as to when this happens. I don't think it is something in the drivetrain because of the reaction through the steering wheel. And it is only one clunk, not a series of clunks. Anyone got any ideas? Tie rod ends? Steering knuckle? Thanks for your help.

Remember, light the fuse and run. The 4th of July is tomorrow.

Mine did the same thing. For me it was a slide pin sliding half way out causing the caliper to move around. You didn't say you had your pins replaced, old ones would cause that too. They are about $2 a piece at Autozone and can be installed in 5 min. It could be the tie rods, but I'd think if that was the case it would clunk when turning.

Godfather,

I did not have the slide pins replaced. I will get this checked out and let you know what I find. Thanks for the insight.
