Every once and a while when I come to a stop, I can feel a clunk from the rear end. It feels and sounds horrible, but a friend of mine says it is nothing. It also will do the same thing when you go over something, for example a speed bump. I was just wondering what all the brilliant minds here had to think about it. TIA:hammer:

Not sure. Maybe it's your exhaust pipe hitting something, like if a hangar is loose. Also it could be a u-joint on the driveshaft moving.

My friends truck was doing the exact same thing... i think. The clunk he had was sort of muffled, but you could feel it in the brake pedal (sort of). It definately wasnt the sound of something banging together (not an exhaust pipe). We figured out that the clunk actually came when the truck rocked back after the stop. If you put it in drive with your foot on the brake, and then had someone rock the back up and down by standing on the bumper, you could feel the same clunk from the drivers seat.

Anyway, I thought it was a rear suspension problem after that. It was a relatively new explorer sport, kinda like yours i believe. He took it to the dealer under warranty and they replaced the driveshaft. The problem was fixed.

I'm not sure if you have the same problem, but I guess its worth a shot.

Good luck

When you have neglected to lubricate your driveshaft slip yoke per Ford's recomendated intervals, it will cause a clunk to be felt and heard when you come to a stop.
