I have read a few messages about front end noises when in 4wd. They all relate to auto hubs... what about manual hubs? It snowed today and when i locked the hubs (manual)and put it into 4wd, 4wd light didn't come on and i heard/felt clunking (or grinding) in the front diff. would this be just the hubs (if the same prob occurs with manual hubs) or something in my tcase, or even my drive axles? Thanks in advance for the help!

If the 4x4 lights aren't coming on, then it is more likely a T/F case problem. You will still get some noise from the hubs when running, manual or automatic, in 4x4. If you have the hubs locked but not in 4x4, do they make noise while you're moving?

It doesn't make any noise when locked and in 2wd. There is however some drag but i guess that would be because of the diff being driven by front wheels. the sound is worse under load IE: accelerating makes more noise than coasting.

No noise, then I'd say your problem is T/F case related.
