driving home from work and started hearing a clunking noise from the front end? when i hit the brakes the noise goes away, and during accel and coasting the clunking noise is heard. wont have the chance to take it apart till this weekend but looking for possible causes. i checked out the front end and brakes aren't loose and nothing noticeable, only thing i found is that the passenger cv was wet where it mounts up to the front diff. knew the oil seal was bad and probably ran it dry on fluid. there is a little amount of play where the cv meets the diff could there possibly be a bearing toasted in the diff itself? Not really sure at this point looking for some opinions on what the problem may be or if anyone else has encountered this before. :(

Sway bar bushings? Have they ever been replaced? If not it's a good place to start. Might as well do the end links while your under there. Being a 96 it's probably time to change them anyway,

Last time I had clunking it was the "looks good" sway bar bushings.

did them about a year ago all moog bushings and end links... could always double check them though.
