Clunking in Transmission

Recently, I noticed an clunking noise in the transmission when I begin to accelerate after a brief period of deceleration. I'm sure the clunking noise is a result of the transmission shifting into gear after decelerating from higher speeds. My questions are: is this normal? is this bad? and last, when decelerating (no gas at all) from highway speed (70 to 80 mph) what gear is the transmission in? Also, the clunking is not always noticable. Thanks for any help.

I have the same thing happening with my '98 Sport still trying to figure it out!

CHeck you tranny mount. This can be normal as the OEM tranny mounts have quite a bit of play in them and can cause a thunking noise. The other cause id the rear driveshaft slipjoit is requiring a little lube.
