Hi everybody,
Thanks in advance to all who can help! I just recently aquired a 2001 Explorer and am having an issue with it going into gear correctly and an issue with popping/clunking sounds when on dirt roads, going over speed bumps or sometimes even accelerating.
The truck will not go into gear from a stop if I put it into "D", but will go into gear with a slight hesitation when I put it into 2 or 1. Then when shifting at speed into D it shifts moderately hard into the next gears. THEN, if I come to stop there is no problem with the tranny starting in first and making it's way up (with the exception of the hard/delayed shift from 2nd to 3rd). When of dirt roads or speed bumps I get pretty loud creaking/popping/clunking sounds that seem like they come from the middle of the under carriage.
Is this a transmission mount issue? I looked at it but don't think I could tell if it was bad or not- both bolts are entact, all looks normal... The tranny fluid is clean, maybe a little full. What I assume is the transmission oil pan seems to leak a little.
The clunking is my concern as I live in the mountains and dirt road driving is common- I don't want the motor or tranny to fall out!
I hope that these issues are connected, would be great to use just one stone...
