the fan in my ranger is cracked and split everywhere you look. i saw a thread about using a metal fan from 96-98 v8s. all i need to know is if its a simple bolt in swap no modifying bolt holes or anything

this one?: DORMAN Part # 620152 {#F67Z8600GA}

I don't remember reading that I could use the steel 5.0 blade on the 4.0 OHV motor. That doesn't mean you can't do it, I just don't remember reading it.

You may have to be the Guinea pig and run to the parts stores, grab one of each and do some measuring/comparing.

The cheapo Dorman 620-112 is $25.99 at Advance, and using an online coupon (adding on the fan clutch tool is a good idea) makes it way cheaper. Not exactly high quality, but it's decent and has a lifetime warranty, so just save the receipt and keep taking it back for a new one when it gets a crack or something.

Otherwise the OE Ford 10 or 11 blade is what you want, but they are like $60+.

A metal fan would be nice, but I don't think the 5.0L fan is a bolt-on, and I haven't seen any others that might work since most vehicles that use the similar setup as the 4.0L also have plastic fans. The OE metal fans seem to be limited to V8s with lots of room between the motor and radiator, and the fancy aftermarket ones don't seem to flow enough air.
