I think I am going to have to replace my clutch master cylinder. It has been squeaking for several months, and now the gears will not shift properly due to the clutch not disengaging the flywheel. My local Ford dealer wants $171C, I can get a UAP for $110 (Dana), or a used one from a 1991 Ford Ranger for $60. I would like to get the used one, as my 91X is now for sale. Can anyone tell me if the Ranger Part will fit the explorer? How big a job is this to replace?

slave cyl

Im not sure about the rangers fitting the exp but to do the job youll have to pull the tranny but thats definetly the hardest part of it. you may want to try bleeding the cyl first before replacing it . as far as your other question about a ranger slave cyl fitting an explorer try calling a junkyard they have interchange books that should tell you if itll work.

You dont' have to pull the tranny to replace your master cylinder. If you were to replace the slave cylinder you would have to pull the transmision. The master cylinder is located on the fire wall. On my 93 it's right beside the brake master cylinder. My haynes manuel is good through 2001, and it's the same procedure for the 2001, and the 93.
Hope that helps
