if i am posting something someone has answered already please forgive me. First off it is a 96 2door 4.0 ohv 2wd 5speed. I have searched for hours and found no answer. how likely is it that the one way valve that prevents fluid from going back into the reservoir when the clutch is pressed has failed? I am not leaking fluid anywhere yet i cannot get the clutch to fully disengage.

It's more likely the slave cylinder.

there is no where for the fluid to go once it gets to the slave. if its not leaking where is the fluid going? when the pedal is pushed the level in the reservoir goes up would that not mean the master is bad?

EDIT: just went out and pulled the inspection plug again and looked around in there with a mirror. no fluid anywhere. the clutch pedal feels like it should does not feel spongy. is it possible for the fluid to be leaking around the piston in the master cyl and not be leaking out of it?
