Clutch or transmission?

Pressed the clutch after coming to a stop ..for a sec it didn t seem to come back up all the .so i shut it off and put it into gear like that and road down the hill as i was a stones throw away.After getting out of work pressing the clutch moves thru the gears if i dont it doesn t go into gear how ever when in gear if i release the clutch no stall no nothing as if its not really doing anything...what could be the problem?

clutch could be completely gone, bad slave something stuck in pressure plate. all three have happened to me

Is the clutch hydraulic? If so check your reservoir and see if it is low.

I had an '86 4-Runner and it would do what you are describing.
