I have a 1998 Explorer Sport, 4.0, 5-Spd, RWD.
Once the truck gets warmed up, the clutch won't disengage properly, then will "stick hard", after finally returning rather than give me a peddle. It HAD been low on fluid at one point; but that was after this condition started.
Any clues? ... I really do NOT want to do a clutch change out! LOL! Nor a slave cylinder! ... but - I guess I will, if that's the only solution. ;)
Thanks! :hammer:

clutch master or slave cylinder not working.

Although you just made me frown (LOL!), I appreciate the quick response. I thought that was likely the case ... but I had really hoped I was wrong.

Never hurts to try bleeding the system first. It's free, and relatively easy. You did mention you were low on fluid at a one point, so there could be an air bubble in there...

Thanks, RangerX! I was kinda' considering that one. I am still bothered, though, as to why it went low to begin with ...!

Hey, clutch fluid doesn't just disappear. it leaked somewhere.

I know, KODA - been thinking that all afternoon.
PROBABLY just going to rebuild the whole series ... it's a '98 with 84K miles - what could I want?? Smart key says: REBUILD.
But I thank you folks for the help! You're generous to give your time; and I am grateful you're here!

When the slave cylinder leaks, the fluid is in the trans case. Mine has a little rubber plug you can remove if fluid comes out, your slave is done. If there is no leak, I agree try bleeding. There is a trick to it posted somewhere on these forums.
