I see Explorer Express advertising +25mm offset for their wheels with "no spacers required". I also see Mustang wheels all over the Net advertising +24mm offset that some people claim need a spacer to run.

1mm is nothing but still wouldn't a +24mm offset gives you a better fit than EE's +25mm?

...and how the heck did BlackMagic fit +35mm on his truck?

PS. my first new thread in awhile... I missed this place! :D

I had 96 Cobra wheels on for 30,000 miles, without spacers. The Mustang 17x8's have a 30-32mm offset. Spacers would make them better, I have 6.35mm(1/4") spacers now. My 18x8.5s have 35mm offsets.

Check the wheel widths also, are you looking at 9" wide wheels. That extra width pushes the need for an equal amount of less offset, to avoid the suspension. Good luck,

Yup, depends on the wheel widh, my 17x9 24mm cobras rub like a ****. I'm too lazy to fab up a stop, so I just  when I go too far.

Still doesn't explain the fact that EE's +25mm offset needs no spacers and Mustang's +24mm needs it. This goes for both 17x8 and 17x9...

It might also have to do with the height of the truck.

When I put my wheels on before lowering only tire rubbed(could be fixed with thinner tires).

After I lowered it(adjuster bolts all the way out on B bars) and I turn too much, well, I have a nice grey spot on the swaybar now from the rim.

Since EE only does smaller drop, that might have something to do with it.

I have 17 X 9 Cobra Bullitts on my 2002 trac 4X4, KYP Shocks, but stock height...Need 1/2" spacers to clear the lip on the hubs in the back and the suspension on the front. I wish I could find a 1/2" spacer that fit right....most of the universal spacers have such a sloppy fit, it is hard to mount and keep cocentric

You dont need a spacer with any of the 17x8's. The 17x9's however are a different story. I have no idea why 1mm makes any difference as it shouldnt. Even with the typical 17x9 you dont have to run spacers... there are things you can do to avoid using them.

such as......

Dont turn the wheel until it locks

Grind a little of the lip off of the lower control arm (were the wheel will rub)

Cut out the factory steering stops on the lower control arm and install bolts as an adjustable steering stopper

Thanks James!
This is what I had in mind and see if I am good to go here.

Mustang Bullitt
Front:
17x8 +24mm offset
255/60 hankook ventus rh06 tires

I found out this is also available in 0 offset. Should I take the 0 offset to avoid the rubbing or would that make the tire stick out too much compare to the rear?

I noticed that in stock, the front tires already stick out more than the rear.

Rear:
17x9 +24mm offset
275/55 hankook ventus rh06 tires

I appreciate any help I could get. :)

What you ahve above would be fine. Dont get 0 offset, that would be like all backspacing.

0 offset would be 4" backspacing on 8" rims, I keep reading stock backspacking is 3.75", so that means it'll sit .75" further out than stock rims.

I can't remember how the +/- offset works, so the rears would either sit .25" further out, or 1.25" .

(I think that's right)

Stock backspacing is about 4.5".

X~FACTOR, those front wheels would be about perfect for the front of a 2nd gen. Those rear wheels would be close to perfect on the outside edge. On the inside you will have about 1/2" less clearance than my Cobra wheels had.

I originally used no spacers, but just before I changed to 18's I bought spacers, and used them first on the rear 17's, to test fitting. You will have to carefully tie back the parking brake cable from the left rear tire. Good luck,

Well, I guess ignore my post. lol

Finally ordered it last night. Ofcourse, I pretended I own a Ford Ranger to avoid problems :). One of the rep called me up and said that I needed some spacers for the front since the +24mm will rub on a Ranger. He said this numerous times. I guess he doesn't want me returning them. I told him, I'll be fine as long as I get exactly what I ordered.

...and if this thing doesn't fit... I'll be looking for James... :p

Just dont turn it all the way. :p The 8's should fit fine with no rubbing... if any it wont be much at all.

My Cobras only touched lightly on the swaybar, against the tire. My 18x8.5's also touch the swaybar, but they also rub some on the inner fenders, very front. Regards,

Got 'em last week. They fit perfectly with no rubbing whatsoever!
